Leaving central Kemer, the opening minutes are the slowest: town streets back up to the coast highway, shared on summer evenings with people going out to eat and in the morning with delivery vans. Once on the highway the car runs north past Göynük and Beldibi, through the tunnels and into Konyaaltı, and how the 55 minutes go depends mostly on the city end. For a pre-dawn flight the town is asleep, the streets are clear, and the whole run is at its quickest.

A town-centre hotel has no long private drive where a car can wait out of the way, so agree the meeting point when you book; the front door on Deniz Caddesi is the natural choice. Be down with the bags at the agreed minute: a short wait at the kerb is fine, but a long one may mean the driver has to move off and loop round the block before stopping again. If you are travelling with small children, ask for child seats on this leg too, as they are fitted before the car sets out.

• Checking out at noon for an evening flight? Ask reception whether bags can be left, and spend the gap on the beach or in town, both a few steps away.
