Leaving from the middle of a town has its own rhythm. Kemer's boulevard is quiet before dawn but fills with delivery vans and tour minibuses from mid-morning, and the hotels along it send guests to the airport at similar hours, so coaches sometimes stand at the kerb outside neighbouring entrances. A private car is small enough to stop at the hotel's own door, and if that kerb is taken it waits a few metres along on the same side. Tell reception the pickup time the evening before so that your cases are down when the car arrives.

The way out is the same side street back up to the bypass, so the town is behind you within a couple of minutes. After that it is the arrival in reverse: north past Göynük and Beldibi, through the tunnels under the cliffs, then Konyaaltı and the ring road to the terminal. The 59 km take about 55 minutes on a clear road; in summer the slow stretch is usually the city end around the ring road, not the coast.

• For an early flight, think about the city-end traffic rather than the empty coast road when you choose the pickup time; the car is at the door at the hour agreed.
• Have the luggage brought down to the boulevard entrance before the car comes, so it does not stand long at the kerb of a busy one-way road.
• Checking out at noon with an evening flight? Leave the bags at the hotel, spend the gap at the marina, and set the pickup for when you actually want to go.
