Leaving from the town centre works in your favour before dawn and against you later. At four or five in the morning the streets around Dörtyol are empty and the car is out on Atatürk Bulvarı almost at once; by mid-morning the same corner carries delivery traffic, minibuses and pedestrians, and getting clear of the centre takes noticeably longer. On the boulevard the car heads north to the D400 junction at the top of Kemer, then turns towards Antalya.

Northbound, the 60 km to the terminal pass Göynük and Beldibi, run through the tunnels and along the Konyaaltı front, and around 55 minutes is the figure in normal traffic. The coast road is rarely the problem; Antalya's ring road and the approach to the terminal are, particularly on summer Saturdays and in the weekday morning rush. The pickup is agreed at booking, counted back from the flight with those hours in mind, and the driver comes to the hotel entrance on its side street.

• Be down in the lobby at the agreed time: the car stops at the entrance on the side street, where it cannot always stand for long.
• The shops around the crossroads may not be open yet for an early pickup, so buy water and anything for the children the evening before.
• Tell us whether you fly from the international or the domestic terminal, and the car will set you down at the correct entrance.
