Good to know
The Fethiye region is the far western end of the coast an Antalya transfer reaches, in Muğla province rather than Antalya. Fethiye is a working town wrapped around a wide bay full of small islands, with a marina and Lycian rock tombs cut into the cliff above the houses. Over a ridge to the south lies Ölüdeniz: the lagoon, the pebble sweep of Belcekız beach and Babadağ rising behind it, with paragliders landing on the beach all afternoon. Hisarönü and Ovacık fill the hillside between the two. Göcek is a small town of yacht marinas; Dalaman a flat farming plain with an airport of its own. People come for the water, the boats and the walking.
Transfers leave the airport westwards, skirt Antalya and turn inland for Korkuteli, climbing onto the Elmalı plateau before dropping back down through pine forest to Seydikemer and Fethiye. The coastal D400 through Kaş and Kalkan reaches the same towns, but it is far longer and slower. Across the region the distance runs from about 200 km at the near end to 230 km for Göcek and Dalaman, so the drive is roughly two and a half to three hours. It is a mountain road rather than a motorway: fast enough, but with climbs, bends and empty stretches. Summer traffic only bites around Antalya; winter can bring snow to the plateau, and night arrivals meet a dark, quiet road.
Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, Göcek and Dalaman are five different kinds of place that happen to share one transfer route. Ölüdeniz is pebble and small: a short strip of hotels behind the beach, and very little open in winter. Hisarönü and Ovacık are the bar-and-restaurant villages on the hill, a minibus ride from the sand. Fethiye is a town first, with markets, restaurants and life outside the season, and its own beach at Çalış a few kilometres north. Göcek is quiet and built around boats, while Dalaman is flat, sandy and more often a stop than a base. Going back, the same two and a half to three hours applies in reverse, which for an early Antalya departure means leaving in the dark.

Fethiye transfer — frequently asked questions
How long does a transfer from Antalya Airport to Fethiye take?
Fethiye is about 200 km from the airport and the drive takes roughly 2 hours 40 minutes. Ölüdeniz is about 215 km and 2 hours 50 minutes, while Göcek and Dalaman are both about 230 km and 3 hours 5 minutes. Allow a little more for a comfort stop and for leaving Antalya in summer.
Would it not be closer to fly into Dalaman?
Dalaman is the local airport for this region and sits about an hour from Fethiye by road, so it is the shorter journey when your tickets allow it. Many people land at Antalya anyway because of flight times, connections or price. In that case the road transfer is the practical way across.
Which route do drivers take, the coast road or the mountain road?
The inland road through Korkuteli and the Elmalı plateau is the usual choice because it is the shorter of the two. The coastal D400 through Kaş and Kalkan reaches the same towns but runs close to 290 km of bends and takes considerably longer, so it is used mainly when the high road is affected by weather or roadworks.
Can we stop on the way to Fethiye?
Yes, and on this route the break usually falls around Korkuteli or up on the Elmalı plateau, roughly halfway, where the filling stations have cafés. Ask for it when you book so the time sits in the schedule instead of coming off your arrival. A longer stop to see something — Saklıkent gorge, off the road near Seydikemer, is the one people ask about — has to be agreed in advance, because it moves the arrival time.
What time should we leave for a morning flight from Antalya?
Work back from the check-in time your airline asks for and add the two and a half to three hour drive, plus a margin for the mountain section. In practice that means leaving Fethiye or Ölüdeniz five to six hours before departure. An early flight therefore means a pickup in the dark.
Do we need a car once we are there?
It depends on the town. Ölüdeniz is small enough to cover on foot, Hisarönü and Ovacık are linked to the beach by dolmuş minibuses, and Fethiye has town transport and a harbour full of boat trips. Göcek and Dalaman are quieter and more spread out, so moving around them takes more planning.
