Leaving is not the arrival in reverse, and the reason is the hotel's position. The access road runs out eastwards and the D400 is divided here, so a car on the sea side usually has to go a couple of kilometres east, away from the airport, to a turning point, and then come back past the hotel heading west. It costs a few minutes rather than anything dramatic, but those minutes fall at the very start, when everyone is watching the clock, so build them into the pickup time when you book the return instead of finding out about them on the morning.

Once the car is pointing west, the rest is plain D400, and the 85 minutes hold for a departure without surprises. What stretches the clock is the towns on the way: Manavgat, where the highway turns into a town boulevard with traffic lights, and Serik nearer the airport, both slower in summer from mid-morning on. A pickup before dawn meets none of that. And if the ticket says Gazipaşa-Alanya rather than Antalya, it is another journey entirely: about 65 km east, with the car simply carrying straight on and no turnaround at all.

• If friends in your party are staying at Granada Luxury Red, a single vehicle can collect from both hotels on the way out; give both names when you book so the order of the pickups is planned.
• Have the car come to the hotel entrance on the access road rather than to the bus stops on the highway, where a vehicle loading suitcases has nowhere safe to stand.
• With an evening flight, the hours after checkout are easily spent in the centre of Avsallar on the far side of the underpass; just be back at the entrance for the agreed pickup time.
