Leaving Kemer is a short affair at the start. The car collects you on the boulevard in front of the hotel, threads back through the town to the junction and joins the coast highway northwards; before dawn the streets are empty and that part takes a few minutes, while on a summer afternoon delivery vans and buses on the boulevard can stretch it. Once on the highway the road runs back past Göynük, Beldibi and Konyaaltı, round the ring road and into the airport, and the 55 minutes for the 61 km is a fair guide outside the July and August weekends.

Town hotels have one trait worth planning around on the last day. Shops and a beach within a few steps make it easy to spend the morning out and come back late for the bags, so settle the pickup hour at booking and let reception know it, so the luggage room is opened in time. If your flight leaves in the evening, a later pickup is usually simpler than an early one followed by hours spent at the terminal.

• Agree the pickup hour when booking, counting back from departure: the drive, then the check-in time your airline asks for, which in summer often means three hours for an international flight.
• The car stops on Atatürk Bulvarı at the hotel's front, so have the cases down at reception a few minutes before the agreed time rather than at the beach end.
• Child seats for the way back are requested at booking, just as for the arrival, and are already fitted when the car comes.
