Leaving Esma Clove, the car first retraces the village road northwards, about three kilometres of stop-and-go past the same shops and hotel entrances, before it climbs back to the D400. Before dawn that stretch is empty and takes a few minutes; mid-morning, with hotel minibuses and delivery vans pulling in and out, it is the slowest part of the whole trip. From the junction the highway threads the cliff tunnels to Konyaaltı and the ring road, and the 48 km to the terminal stay close to 45 minutes outside the city's rush hours.

Because the hotel sits right on the beach, the last morning tends to end with a swim, and the pebbles mean wet shoes as well as wet towels. Keep a dry set of clothes and the travel documents out of the cases, check the room once more before you hand in the key, and be at reception with the luggage when the agreed time comes. The pickup hour is fixed at booking: count back the drive, your airline's check-in window and a margin for the Konyaaltı section on summer afternoons.
