Leaving, the gate puts the car on the southbound carriageway, which points into town rather than towards the airport. So the first thing the driver does is roll about eighty metres to the gap in the central reservation just below the hotel, turn back, and run some 670 metres north up the boulevard to the fork where it rejoins the D400. That takes a couple of minutes at dawn and a few more once the delivery vans are out. From there it is the coast road you came in on: Göynük, Beldibi, the tunnels, Konyaaltı and the ring road to the terminals, 59 km in all.

Because the beach lies across the boulevard, a last swim on departure day means a road crossing on the way back and wet things to pack afterwards, so the morning needs more slack than at a hotel with the sea behind the rooms. The pickup is at the front entrance on Atatürk Bulvarı, where a car can stand only briefly; have the cases down before the agreed hour. Allow the 55 minutes of driving, the check-in window your airline sets, and something extra in summer for Konyaaltı and the city, which slow down long before the coast road does.

• Put DG Hotels Rose Resort, Atatürk Bulvarı 75 on the return booking: Elamir Resort Hotel stands on the same side of the boulevard about 350 metres to the north, and at night the two entrances are easy to mix up.
• A late flight after a noon check-out leaves an afternoon to fill; the marina is close enough on foot, but be back at the entrance before the pickup time, because the car cannot circle the boulevard while it waits.
