On the way back, Alanya comes first. From Oba the car goes west straight into the town section of the D400, and that crossing is what makes the hour matter: before dawn it takes a few minutes, while from mid-morning onwards buses, delivery vans and local traffic hold up every set of lights. Once past Alanya the highway opens up through Konaklı, Avsallar, Okurcalar, Manavgat and Serik, and in ordinary conditions the 131 km to the terminal take about 110 minutes.

The car collects you at the street entrance in Oba at the hour agreed when you booked, so a last morning on the beach has to allow for the walk back across the boulevard, a shower and the packing. For a daytime departure, add a cushion for the town crossing on top of the airline's check-in window. Anyone flying from Gazipaşa instead should know that it lies the opposite way, east of Oba, and that the airport code on the ticket tells you which one it is.

• A pickup in the small hours avoids the slow part through Alanya entirely; if your flight leaves around midday, ask for a slightly earlier car than the arithmetic alone suggests.
• Give the return booking the hotel's current name with the street, Fatih Caddesi 43, so the driver is not hunting through the side streets of Oba for an entrance he only knows by an older sign.
• The supermarkets around the hotel are handy for water and snacks the evening before, which matters when the car comes before breakfast is served.
