Leaving Kandelor, the car comes to the door in the side street, and the first few hundred metres, threading back through Saray to the main road, are the slowest of the whole trip. After that it is a short run west through Kızlarpınarı and out of town onto the D400. Unlike the hotels in Oba or Mahmutlar further east, this address has very little of Alanya to cross, so the town's own rush hours matter less here than at almost any other hotel in the resort.

The 125 km back to the terminal take about 105 minutes: along the coast through Konaklı, Avsallar and Okurcalar, then the long D400 stretch past Manavgat and Serik. In July and August the coastal section through the resort villages carries the most traffic, with coaches turning in and out of hotel gates, and that is where a margin pays off. With a flight late in the day, ask reception whether the bags can be held; the beach across the boulevard is close enough to fill the afternoon before the car comes.

• Ask for the pickup at the hotel door rather than out on Atatürk Bulvarı; in the side street the driver can load the cases without stopping in the boulevard's traffic.
• For a pre-dawn flight, set the pickup as early as you need and tell the night reception, so the door is open and the bags are down when the car arrives.
• Count back from the departure time: about 105 minutes of driving plus your airline's check-in window, with extra in high summer for the resort villages along the coast road.
