Going home works the other way round from arriving. The hotel faces the eastbound carriageway and the airport lies to the west, so the car has to get over to the westbound lanes, which in Avsallar means going round through a junction instead of turning straight out of the entrance. Before dawn that costs a minute or two; on a summer morning, with buses and delivery vans working the town centre, it can take noticeably longer. It is the one local detail worth building into the pickup time.

Once pointing west you are on the road you arrived by: Okurcalar, Manavgat, Serik and then the airport turn. Door to terminal it is 103 km, about 85 minutes on a clear road, and the variable part is Manavgat, where the highway runs through town with traffic lights. Count back from your flight through the drive, the check-in time your airline asks for and a margin of your own. Tell reception the evening before that a car is coming early, so the night staff expect the driver and can help bring the luggage down.

• Wait for the car on the hotel's own side of the highway; hauling suitcases across the D400 to meet a vehicle on the far side is exactly what to avoid.
• With a flight late in the day, the beach right below the hotel fills the last afternoon easily, so book the pickup for the evening and leave the luggage with reception until then.
• Check the airport code on the ticket: this run goes west to Antalya (AYT), while Gazipaşa-Alanya (GZP) lies on the far side of Alanya and is a separate booking.
