Going home, the car leaves the hotel on the inland side of the D400 and turns west towards Antalya. Then comes Konaklı's long main street, the slowest part of the trip at the morning rush, before Türkler, Avsallar and İncekum carry the road along the bends of the shore to Okurcalar. Beyond Manavgat it opens out into plain dual carriageway. Before dawn the 118 km come close to the 100 minutes; on a summer weekday morning the stop-start through Konaklı alone can add a margin worth planning for.

Pickup is at the hotel entrance at the hour fixed when you book, so be in the lobby with the cases a few minutes before it. A morning flight means a start in the dark from here, so ask reception the night before what they can arrange for an early breakfast. Take one last walk through the tunnel to the beach for anything left behind on a sunbed: once the car is on the D400 heading west, going back means a long loop.

• Set the pickup from the flight time backwards: the 100-minute drive, plus the check-in time your airline wants, which for summer international departures is often close to three hours.
• Flying out of Gazipaşa instead of Antalya? Say so when you book, because that airport lies east of Alanya, the opposite way along the coast.
• The fare is fixed per vehicle when you book; Konaklı's morning traffic can stretch the drive but never the fare.
