Heading back, the side streets come first and in reverse: out of Kavaklı Caddesi, up Atatürk Bulvarı and onto the D400 at the town turning. At dawn the town streets are quiet and the highway is only a few minutes away; later in the morning, vans unloading outside the shops can stall the car for longer than the short distance suggests. After that come the 61 km north-east, along the cliffs past Göynük and Beldibi to Konyaaltı and then the ring road to the terminal, which on a clear run take the 55 minutes quoted.

A small town hotel has no forecourt or long drive, so the car pulls up at the door on the street and the cases go into the boot from the pavement. Be outside at the agreed hour with the luggage beside you rather than still at the desk, because a vehicle standing on a two-lane street blocks whoever comes behind it. For a flight before dawn, settle the bill and hand back the key the evening before, and check with reception who will be there to open the door at that hour.
