The divided highway that makes the arrival so simple shapes the departure as well. A car leaving the gate can only turn right, towards Alanya, so the journey to Antalya begins by going the wrong way: about a kilometre and a half east, past the gates of the Resort and the Club, to the junction at the edge of Avsallar, where it turns and comes back west past the hotel. That adds about three kilometres and a few minutes. Before dawn it hardly counts, but on a tight schedule it belongs in the sum alongside check-out, the luggage and the queues at the airport.

After the turn the road is the arrival in reverse: through İncekum and Okurcalar, over the Alara, along the shore past Kızılot and Kızılağaç to Manavgat, where the D400 runs through the town, and across the plain of Serik and Aksu to the airport. Eighty-five minutes is the figure for an ordinary run. One more check is worth making before anyone fixes a time: some flights serving this coast use Gazipaşa-Alanya rather than Antalya, and that airport is about 68 km east of the hotel, so look for AYT or GZP on the ticket.

• Write AQI Pegasos Royal on the departure booking as well, so that the car is sent to this gate and not to the Resort's or the Club's a few hundred metres further east.
• For a dawn flight the turn at Avsallar takes a minute and the D400 is quiet; later in the morning Manavgat's town traffic is where the time goes, so the later the flight, the bigger the margin.
• The fare is fixed per vehicle when you book, so the loop at the start and a slow run through Manavgat change the clock but never the price.
