From about eight the city's morning traffic is on the same roads, and in the busiest weeks of summer the approach to the departure terminals builds a queue of its own.

• If the holiday has produced an extra case, ask for the larger vehicle when you arrange the return rather than hoping it will fit on the morning.
• For a pickup before first light, be at the entrance at the agreed minute: the driver comes at the time you set and the grounds are dark and quiet at that hour.
