Leaving, the order of the drive turns around: first the seafront boulevard, then the cross-city run east to the terminal. The boulevard is the easy part at dawn and the slow part on a summer evening, when cars queue for parking along the beach. The northern boulevards are where weekday mornings bite, roughly between eight and ten, as the city goes to work and school. For a flight before mid-morning, an early pickup clears both before they fill; for an afternoon departure the 23 km usually stay close to the 25 minutes.

Because the hotel stands on a public road rather than behind a gate, the car pulls in at the kerb outside, and on this boulevard nobody can stand there for long. Have the cases down in the lobby a few minutes before the agreed time so the loading is over in a minute and the car is not holding up the seafront traffic. If the last morning goes on a swim across the road, leave room afterwards for a shower and the final packing: the sea is close, but salt and pebbles in the bags still take a while to sort out.

• Set the pickup from the departure time: about 25 minutes across the city, then the check-in window your airline asks for, which for an international flight is far longer than the drive.
• Mention child seats for the way back as well; they go into the car before it sets out and cannot be found at the kerb on the morning.
• A slow crossing of Antalya costs time but never changes the fare, which is fixed per vehicle when you book.
