From the Lara hotels, the Land of Legends lies beyond the Aksu river, at Kadriye, where the Belek resort coast starts. It brings together a theme park full of rides, water slides and an open-air shopping area threaded by a canal, and its evening programme closes with a fountain show of loud sound and light effects. With the park this close, a Lara family does not have to give it the whole day. Some still go in the morning for the slides; plenty of others spend the hot hours at their own hotel pool, arrive in the late afternoon and stay on until the final show. When that one ends, a large part of the audience heads for the gates at the same moment.

The drive is 19 km, about 25 minutes, and it never joins the D400 or comes anywhere near the airport. The car follows Lara Caddesi east along the hotel frontage and through Kundu; past the last resorts, the link road built between Kundu and Belek takes over. It crosses the Aksu a short way upstream of the river mouth, runs on between rows of greenhouses and passes over a second river bridge, which is also the boundary of Serik district. The last stretch into Kadriye passes pine groves and golf courses. On the way back, any wait tends to happen at the park exit, not on the road. The booking covers the ride out; a return at a set hour, or waiting time, can be added.

• The park lists its show times date by date, and the final fountain show is a late one, so check the programme for your day before you fix the return pickup.
• Ask for the pickup a little after the last show ends rather than on the dot, so the first wave of coaches and cars is already on its way by the time you reach the meeting point.
• Agree on a named meeting point when you book and keep one phone charged for the evening, because after a day of photos a flat battery makes finding each other in the crowd much harder.
• If the children ride in car seats, give their ages when booking: the leg is short, but the return is the late one, with tired children likely to doze off before the hotel.
