Going back, the hotel's position works against you in a way it does not on arrival. Everything between Sarısu and the terminal is city: the ring road, Hürriyet Caddesi, then the long run of junctions and lights on Gazi Bulvarı across the north of Antalya. Before seven in the morning the 31 km are open road and the 35 minutes hold. Between about half past seven and nine, and again in the late afternoon, commuter traffic builds on exactly that boulevard, and that is when a pickup set to the minute starts to feel tight.

The car comes to the hotel's door on 149. Sokak, a narrow residential street rather than a boulevard with a lay-by, so have the cases in the lobby when it is due and it can load without blocking the lane for long. If you spent the last morning on the Sarısu beach or at the marina, leave yourself time to walk or ride back, shower and finish packing; the beach is close, but not across the road.

• For a departure between half past seven and nine, or in the late afternoon, move the pickup earlier than the bare drive time suggests, because Gazi Bulvarı is the city's commuter artery.
• If the hotel packs a breakfast box for departing guests, ask for it the night before; the car leaves at the agreed hour.
• The fare is fixed per vehicle at booking, so a slow crossing of the city costs you time, never money.
