Heading back to Antalya means crossing Alanya first, and that shapes the pickup hour more than anything else. Early in the morning the boulevard through town is clear and the car is soon through the centre and onto the open D400; from mid-morning the same stretch fills with buses, delivery vans and traffic lights that stay red longer than you would like. After the town comes the long westward run past Konaklı, Manavgat and Serik, and on a normal day the 136 km come to roughly 110 minutes.

Because the beach lies on the far side of the road, the last morning tends to split in two: a final swim through the underpass, then a rush back upstairs to pack. Set the pickup so that the swim is not the thing that runs late. Wet swimwear goes in a separate bag on top, and if anyone walked the pebbles all week, the sea shoes are the item most often left drying on the balcony. The car comes to the hotel entrance on Sahil Caddesi, on the landward side of the road, and the agreed time is the moment it is there.

• Work back from the departure: 110 minutes of road plus your airline's check-in window, with an extra margin for Alanya's traffic if the pickup falls after breakfast.
• If the trip ends with a flight from Gazipaşa rather than Antalya, say so when booking, as that is a different and much shorter transfer.
• The fare is fixed per vehicle at booking, so a slow crossing of Alanya costs time, never money.
