The way out starts on the same three kilometres of Kiriş Caddesi that brought you in, driven back to the slip road onto the D400. That local stretch is taken slowly, so the first minutes of the trip count for more than their distance. Once on the highway the route reverses the arrival exactly: past Kemer, through the tunnels, along the Konyaaltı shore and round the city to the terminal, 68 km that usually take the 60 minutes quoted.

Because the D400 skirts Kemer, the departure never threads through the town centre; the parts to allow time for are Kiriş Caddesi at the start and the city ring near the end. The driver comes to the entrance on Sahil Caddesi at the hour you agreed when booking. Sand from the beach tends to travel home in shoes and towels, so pack the wet things in a separate bag the night before rather than at the door.

• Work the pickup time back from your flight: one hour on the road plus the check-in time your airline asks for, and a margin for summer traffic around Antalya in July and August.
• If you need a child seat for the airport run, name it on the return booking too; it is fitted before the car leaves for Kiriş.
• With an afternoon flight and the last hours spent in Kemer's centre, give a pickup point in town rather than going back to Kiriş first.
