Homeward, the car climbs back to the D400 from the middle of Beldibi and heads north through the tunnels to Antalya. The 46 km to the terminal take around 45 minutes on a clear road. The mountain section hardly varies from one hour to the next; what stretches the journey is the city that follows it, with the weekday morning rush from Konyaaltı onwards and, in high summer, the slow traffic of the late afternoon as beach-goers head home along the same seafront.

The car comes to the hotel entrance on Atatürk Caddesi at the hour fixed when the transfer was booked. Settle anything owed at reception the night before, so you are not queuing at the desk at the very moment the car pulls up. If the plan includes a last swim on the departure morning, remember that the beach section is around 450 metres from the building: allow for the walk back, a shower and a change before the pickup, and keep a dry bag for the swimwear that will not have time to dry.

• On weekday mornings leave a margin for the Antalya end of the road; the coastal part runs steadily, the city does not.
