On the departure morning the car comes back down to Deniz Caddesi through the town's side streets and pulls up at the hotel. Early in the day the centre is quiet and the drive out to the D400 takes only a few minutes; in the late morning, when beach traffic, shop deliveries and tour minibuses share those narrow streets, it takes longer, so have the luggage downstairs a few minutes before the agreed time. Once on the highway the run north past Göynük and Beldibi is steady, and the 61 km to the terminal take close to 55 minutes.

Afternoon and evening flights are where a seafront hotel in the middle of town pays off. Ask reception the evening before whether the cases can wait at the desk after checkout; if so, the last hours can go on the beach, at the marina or over a meal near Liman Caddesi rather than in the lobby. Work the pickup out backwards from the departure time: the drive, the check-in window your airline sets, and a margin for the Konyaaltı end of the route, where traffic builds on summer afternoons.

• Give Deniz Caddesi 25 as the pickup address; a driver told only Fame might head for the neighbour at number 15.
• If the last hours go on the beach or at the marina, be back at the hotel door on Deniz Caddesi ten minutes before pickup, so the cases can go straight into the car.
• Night flights find the D400 almost empty, and that is when the drive from the town centre to the terminal is at its most predictable.
