Nineteen beaches that are a destination in their own right rather than the sand in front of somebody's hotel. Two lie inside the city at 16 and 22 km; one is in Belek at 35; six run along the Kemer road, from Göynük to Adrasan, between 50 and 109 km; three belong to the Side belt from 62 to 70; five are grouped around Alanya between 100 and 129; and two sit out in the Kaş district at 219 and 241 km — two hours fifty-five and three hours ten minutes each way, which makes a whole day of it rather than an afternoon.
Good to know
A beach is a drop-off with nothing standing behind it. No desk to leave a bag at, no lobby to retreat into when the wind gets up, and on the smaller bays nothing coming past at six in the evening that you could stop. The return leg is therefore the entire booking. Either the driver stays for a period agreed in advance, or you name the hour to be collected — and name the place as well, because the far end of a long beach is not somewhere a car can pull in.
The remaining details are small and still worth writing down. Everyone comes back damp, so a boot that left the terminal holding suitcases comes home holding wet towels; say at booking what is travelling with you. A child seat costs nothing if you ask for one, and we need the ages to fit the right ones. And because cancellation is free with no deadline, a beach day can be held the night before against a forecast that has not made up its mind.
