Heading back, the first part of the road is the busiest per kilometre. Through Avsallar, İncekum and Okurcalar the D400 passes one hotel entrance after another, and on summer mornings tour coaches stop at many of them to collect guests for excursions, so a car can spend more time behind a coach than the distance suggests. Beyond that comes the stretch past Manavgat and then the open dual carriageway past Serik and Aksu to the terminal. Taken together, 105 km and roughly 90 minutes is a fair figure for planning, and an early start mostly avoids the coaches.

The airport question deserves a second look before you book. Gazipaşa–Alanya airport is nearer to Fugla — the listing puts it around 60 km away — and some charter returns use it, so check the airport code on the ticket and tell us which one you are flying from. For Antalya, work back from the departure time: the drive, plus the check-in window your airline sets, which in high season is usually close to three hours for an international flight. A last swim off the pier fits better before breakfast than in the half hour before the car.

• If a child seat was fitted on arrival, ask for it on the departure leg too; it goes into the car before it leaves for Fugla.
