Heading back, the car leaves Atatürk Caddesi for the D400 and turns north, so the cliff road and its tunnels come in the first quarter of an hour, then the long descent to Konyaaltı and the ring road to the terminal. The full 45 km usually take the 45 minutes they took on arrival. Beldibi is the Kemer village closest to Antalya, which keeps the pickup for a morning flight reasonable: nothing on the departure leg compares with the drive from Tekirova or Çamyuva.

In the middle of Beldibi the street outside the hotel carries delivery vans, pedestrians and buses through much of the day, and the car may have to stop a little beyond the entrance rather than at it. Have the luggage ready in the lobby and the driver can collect it in one trip. Before about seven the street is quiet, and so is the D400; after eight the Antalya end begins to fill, and that is the part of the route where an extra ten minutes can appear.

• Agree the pickup time when you book the return, working back from the flight with forty-five minutes for the road and your airline's check-in window on top.
• Sandy beach bags and swim things are best packed separately the night before, so the cases can be closed and taken down before the last swim.
• If you want to stop in Antalya for an hour before the airport, Konyaaltı beach and the old town both lie on the way; book the stop and the extra time together.
