The Sin keeps its music going until the early hours, and the early hours are also when the first airport cars of the day set off along this strip, so a pickup before dawn may find the theatre end of the grounds still awake. Settle the meeting point when you book: the entrance of the main block, about 150 metres inside the gate, is where the car should come, rather than the boulevard. Be at that door with the cases a few minutes before the agreed time. Wheeling luggage out to the road is the slowest possible start, and on a journey of twenty minutes there is nowhere to win the time back.

Leaving, the car turns back west along the boulevard, past the Barut gate to the Lara end, and then takes the long avenue to the terminals: the arrival, run in reverse. Before seven the 15 km is open road from start to finish, and the quoted time is, if anything, generous. Later in the morning the junctions where the boulevard meets the city streets around Lara fill up, and a run that was quick at dawn can slow noticeably. At the far end the departures ramp has a queue of its own whenever several flights leave close together, so a small margin for the last few hundred metres is never wasted.

• Ask for the car at the main block's entrance rather than the gate on the boulevard: with suitcases, the 150 metres or so in between feel much longer than they look.
• Colleagues or team-mates flying out together can share one vehicle, since the fare is fixed per vehicle at booking rather than per seat; just give the full bag count.
• If the last night is spent at the theatre or the club, fix the next morning's pickup before you go — the driver is at the door at the agreed hour, however late the evening ran.
