The way home starts on that same side street, back up to the D400, where the car has to join the westbound carriageway; on a divided highway that can mean using the nearest junction to turn rather than pulling straight out. After that it is 95 km and about 80 minutes back over the Alara, through Manavgat and Serik to the terminal. The road runs freest before seven in the morning; from late morning in summer, the Manavgat traffic lights and the coaches moving between hotels are what stretch the time.

Work the pickup out from the check-in deadline rather than from take-off. Eighty minutes of road, a few more for leaving the bay streets, and the time your airline wants you inside the terminal, which on a summer Saturday at Antalya can be considerable, together set the hour; we agree it at booking and the car comes at that hour. A beach reached on foot makes it tempting to fit in one last swim, so pack first, leave the cases at reception and keep the travelling clothes dry.
