Coming the other way, the problem is the last five kilometres. Long-distance coaches from Konya, İzmir or Istanbul set everyone down at Antalya's bus station, and city buses will leave you on the D400 at the Belek junction with your cases, still well short of any resort gate. So the passengers on this leg are people who have just arrived in the city with luggage, holidaymakers who spent a first night in a hotel in the centre before starting a golf week, relatives who live in Antalya going out for a weekend by the beach, and, at the turn of the season, the staff the resorts recruit in the city and have to get down to the gate for a first shift.

Getting out of Antalya is the part that varies. From the bus station the car has the whole city to cross before it sees open road; from a hotel in Lara it is on the eastbound carriageway within a minute. Either way the traffic thins at the airport turning, where a good share of it peels off, and from there the D400 runs straight through Aksu and the glasshouses with nothing to do but hold a speed. At the Belek exit the road turns south and drops five kilometres through pine forest to the resorts, slowing for the speed bumps where it threads through Kadriye. Reckon on 40 km and about 40 minutes, more if you leave the centre at the end of the afternoon.

• Your starting point decides the route as much as the duration, so book the exact spot — the terminal door at the bus station, or your hotel's own entrance — rather than the district.
• Leaving the centre in the late afternoon adds time to a 40-minute drive; start earlier if there is a check-in or a tee time waiting.
• The forest road down to the resorts has no lighting and no pavement, so an address in a villa complex or an apartment block is worth sending as a map pin when you book instead of describing it at the barrier.
• Coaches run late far more often than they run early, so give the service and the time it is due in rather than a fixed pickup time, and the car is there when you actually walk out.
