Antalya to Kaş private transfer

Almost nobody makes this trip for its own sake: it is the join between the two halves of a Lycian holiday. Antalya has the flights, the hospitals and the shopping malls; Kaş has the dive boats, the sea kayaks over the sunken city at Kekova, and coves you enter from a platform instead of a beach. There is no airport at the Lycian end and no railway anywhere on this coast, so the realistic choice is a private car or most of a day on buses with a change. Divers, walkers doing sections of the Lycian Way and villa guests all end up on the same road.

The route is the D400 from end to end: 190 km, about 155 minutes. It leaves the city on the ring road, drops to the sea past Konyaaltı and runs under the wall of the Beydağları through Kemer, Çamyuva and Tekirova before climbing the forested pass above Kumluca, with short tunnels on the way down. Finike is flat and full of citrus, Demre a valley roofed in greenhouse plastic. After that the road leaves the coast for good, loops over high empty country and drops into Kaş in hairpins. In summer the climbs behind lorries take the time; in winter, wet tarmac.

• Where you start in Antalya counts for more than the hour you pick: Lara and Kundu are on the wrong side of the city for this road and cost a good half hour before it begins, while a Konyaaltı address is already facing the right way.
• Walkers doing a section of the Lycian Way should say so when they book: a drop at a trailhead rather than in Kaş town changes both the route and the time, and it is not a thing to raise at the roadside.
• Two and a half hours of climbing and descending is a long time in a back seat, so settle before you leave who travels in front — the pass above Kumluca is too late to be swapping places.
• Mention dive or kayak kit when you book — a cylinder bag and fins take up the space of a fourth suitcase.
