Dalaman is the nearer airport for Kalkan, so this run belongs to the people whose flight home leaves from Antalya instead: villa and terminal are then the better part of three hours apart, on a road without a single fast section. Villa weeks end awkwardly as well — keys back in the morning, a flight late at night — which leaves a whole day to put somewhere, and it is usually put in the city. The rest is group travel: a party of eight or ten who want one vehicle and one arrival hour, and owners driving out at the end of the season with the house shut behind them.

Departure starts uphill and in reverse: cases carried up to the lane, a vehicle turning where there is room for one, then the climb out to the D400. The cliff road to Kaş comes first, still in shade early in the day, then the mountain crossing, the drop to Demre and the flat coast through Finike. The pass above Kumluca is the last of the climbing; after it the Kemer shoreline and the ring road. The 210 km come to roughly 170 minutes, and to more than that on a summer evening, when the final half hour moves at the city's pace rather than the road's.

• For a morning flight, work the day backwards from the check-in desk: three full hours of driving, the time the airport itself takes, and the ten minutes the climb out of Kalkan costs before the D400 even starts.
• If the villa drive is single-track, agree the meeting point at the top of the lane and allow a few minutes for carrying cases up to it.
• The first half hour is the cliff road to Kaş, and before sunrise it is what sets the pace for everything after it — the departure hour is built around that stretch rather than the total, and around a driver who knows it in the dark.
• If it is the airport, give the flight number and not just the hour: Antalya's terminals are separate buildings, and the drop-off door follows the flight.
