The part of this journey people underestimate is the last twenty minutes rather than the first. Out on the fairway boulevards the car moves freely at almost any hour, so the 35 minutes hold up well. The airport does not hold up in the same way: in high season it asks for the queue at the kerb, then the queue at the desk, then the queue at the scanner, each of them independent of the others. Fix the pickup with all three in mind, and treat the drive as the fixed cost of the morning and the terminal as the variable one.

The way out starts quietly. Early on, the boulevards carry the courses' own traffic, maintenance pickups and buggies crossing where the holes meet the road, and then nothing at all as far as the D400. West of Serik the highway is at its heaviest between about ten and one, when the departing coaches are sharing it with you, and the stretch past Aksu is the one to allow for. After that comes the turn-off, the approach, the terminal your airline sends you to, and finally the kerb, where the car in front unloads before yours.

• Ask for the pickup at the main entrance rather than the beach side, since the walk across the dune belt is pleasant with a towel and not with luggage.
• In July and August the terminal kerb is the slowest link in the chain, so aim to be dropped with time in hand rather than to the minute.
• A pickup before six finds the boulevards empty and the airport quiet, which is the quickest version of this run, though it does not make check-in any shorter.
