The distance back is the same 19 km in every month, and the drive normally takes about 25 minutes; what moves with the season is the terminal. In July and August the queues at check-in and security are at their longest, while in winter the same halls are far quieter. Set the pickup by your airline's check-in deadline and by the terminal you expect on the day, and treat the road as the steady part of the sum. On a transfer this short it is tempting to leave things late; the minutes saved in bed are usually spent again in the queue.

Leaving, the car turns out of the gate onto the boulevard and heads west, back past the Kundu and Lara hotels and through the same roundabouts, before turning inland at Lara and running north along the airport's eastern side to the terminals. Antalya has more than one terminal building, so say which one you need when you book; the driver can then take you straight to the right departures door instead of finding it on the approach.

• In peak summer ask for the pickup earlier than you would for the same flight in winter: the road does not change, the queue inside the terminal does.
• If the flight leaves before dawn, settle the bill the evening before: the drive itself is short, so a slow start at reception eats into the margin faster than the road ever would.
• Wait for the car at the hotel's main entrance rather than out on the boulevard, where the gates of neighbouring resorts follow one another closely.
