Going home, the town streets come first. At four or five in the morning the three kilometres from Tokuşlar Sokak back to the D400 are empty and take a few minutes; by late morning the same streets carry delivery vans, dolmuş minibuses and the town's own errands, and the roundabout on Yunus Emre Caddesi can hold the car longer than the whole of Konaklı. Once clear of Alanya, the D400 runs west past Konaklı, Avsallar and Okurcalar with the sea on the left for long stretches, and then through Manavgat, the one town on the route where the highway turns into a street with traffic lights.

At 127 km and about 105 minutes this is one of the longer transfers on the coast, and the pickup hour should be worked out from the flight rather than guessed: the drive, plus the time your airline wants you at the terminal, plus a margin if the car will cross Manavgat at a busy hour. Hand back keys and settle anything owed at reception the evening before, so that a pre-dawn exit is only a matter of carrying the cases down. Fix the hour when you book, not at the desk; the driver comes to the lane at the time agreed.

• After a self-catering stay the bags often carry shopping from the town as well, so give the number of cases and not only the number of travellers.
• If you would rather meet the car out on Şevket Tokuş Caddesi than in the lane, say so at booking; the driver needs one agreed spot.
• The fare is set per vehicle when you book, so slow going out of Alanya or through Manavgat moves the arrival time and nothing else.
