Leaving, the car does not retrace the arrival exactly. From 102. Sokak it runs out to Lise Caddesi, a couple of hundred metres, joins Atatürk Bulvarı at the roundabout and heads north up the boulevard for a little over two kilometres to the D400 junction at the top of town. Those are the slowest minutes of the trip in the evening, when strollers cross between the hotels and the shops at every corner; before seven in the morning they barely register.

Beyond the junction it is the coast road in reverse — Göynük, Beldibi, the tunnels, then Konyaaltı and the ring road — and 61 km in about 55 minutes is a fair figure on a free road. Antalya's western approach is the part that varies, with commuters in the morning and again in the late afternoon. We set the pickup from your flight time and the hour of day and confirm it when you book; the driver comes into the lane to the hotel door instead of waiting out on the boulevard.

• Give the street, 102. Sokak, and not only the hotel name on the departure booking as well: Himeros Beach is a ten-minute walk away, and an address mix-up at five in the morning costs time you do not have.
• Child seats used on the arrival are not carried over automatically, so mention them again when you arrange the return.
• Leftover lira are better spent on Liman Caddesi, two minutes from the door, than at the airport shops.
