Leaving, the car rejoins the boulevard and runs west, back past the Delphin entrances and over the three roundabouts to Güzeloba, before turning north on Kardeş Kentler Caddesi for the terminal. This is the near end of the Lara–Kundu row: only about five kilometres of boulevard lie between the gate and the airport road, so the coaches that clog the strip further east cost less time here, and the 16 km usually take close to the 20 minutes quoted. When there is a slow patch, it is around the Delphin Imperial roundabout, where several neighbouring hotels send their departure coaches out onto the same road.

With the drive this short, the part of the morning worth planning is the last half-hour inside the hotel: checking out, settling any extras, bringing the cases from the room to the lobby. Ask for the pickup at the main entrance under Fame Residence Lara & Spa, Kemerağzı, and be there with everything ready a few minutes before the agreed time. At an early hour the car is usually alone at the gate; later in the morning it may be waiting its turn behind a coach.

• With only 20 minutes of road, it is the airline's check-in window that sets the pickup hour; work back from the time it wants you at the terminal.
• Mention pushchairs, sports bags and the number of cases when you book the departure, since the vehicle is chosen by luggage as much as by passengers.
• Sharing the car with friends at a neighbouring hotel? Put both pickups on the booking; the second gate is only a few hundred metres away, but it has to be arranged in advance.
