Departure from here is quick to get under way. The hotel lies only a short way down the lane from the D400, so the car is back on the highway almost as soon as the doors close, and the first real decision is only the hour. The run heads west through Türkler, Avsallar, Okurcalar, Manavgat and Serik to the terminal, 114 km that take around 95 minutes in normal traffic.

The beach is a few hundred metres from your room, down the lane and back up again, so a last swim needs a bit more time than it would at a shoreline hotel: count the walk, a shower and the packing before the agreed pickup. The driver arrives at the hour fixed at booking, and the earliest summer flights mean leaving well before breakfast, so ask reception the evening before whether a packed breakfast can be prepared.

• Put the flight number and its departure time in the return booking; the pickup hour is worked back from those, and an early northern-European departure often means a car before dawn.
• If the ticket reads GZP rather than AYT, you fly from Gazipaşa, east beyond Alanya, which is the opposite direction from this transfer; say so when you book.
• Hand back any beach towels the night before: the beach is a walk away down the lane, and a forgotten item there is awkward to fetch with the car at the door.
