Leaving from the centre reverses the usual pattern, because the slow part comes first. The town streets back out to the D400 are quiet at six in the morning, but from mid-morning they fill with delivery vans, dolmuş minibuses and people heading for the beach. Once the car is on the highway and past the western hotels, the coast road opens out, and the run to Antalya Airport is steady, with Manavgat the one town where traffic lights hold it up again. Across the whole 127 km, the 105 minutes is realistic outside the busiest summer hours.

Alanya has a second, much nearer airport, Gazipaşa-Alanya, listed at about 42 km from the hotel, so check which of the two your return ticket names before booking; this transfer runs to Antalya. For an Antalya flight, count back from departure: 105 minutes of road plus the check-in time your airline sets. In a town-centre side street a car cannot stand at the kerb for long, so have the bags down in the lobby at the agreed time and the stop outside can be brief.

• If the last morning is spent at the hotel's beach on Cleopatra, check the shuttle's return times so you are back well before the car arrives.
