Leaving, the hotel's place on the Kemer side of Göynük means the car heads north the whole way: out along Ahu Ünal Aysal Caddesi, back onto the coast highway, past Göynük village and Beldibi, through the tunnels and down to Konyaaltı. It is the same 54 km in reverse, and the 50 minutes holds while the city is still asleep. From about eight on a weekday the Konyaaltı seafront and the ring road fill with commuters, and that, rather than the mountain section, is where a departure loses time.

A large hotel on a changeover morning has a queue at reception at exactly the hour people want to leave, so settle the bill the evening before if the desk allows it. Have the cases brought to the main entrance on Ahu Ünal Aysal Caddesi instead of leaving them on the beach side of the grounds, because that street entrance is where the car pulls up. The pickup time agreed at booking is when the car is there, and a driver who finds nobody at the door will ask reception, so keep the room number to hand.

• Count back from the flight: 50 minutes on the road, your airline's check-in margin, and a cushion for Konyaaltı if the pickup falls between eight and ten.
• For the return, give the hotel as Bergiz at number 39 rather than any older name, so the car does not stop at another hotel on the same street.
• Ask reception which entrance to wait at; a resort of this size can have more than one gate, and the car should come to the one where you and the cases are.
