Leaving from a town boulevard is not like leaving a resort gate. The car pulls up on Ahmet Tokuş Bulvarı at the door, where it can stand only briefly among buses and delivery vans, so the cases should already be in the lobby at the agreed time. It then works back through the town streets to the through road and turns west. The 129 km to the terminals take about 105 minutes on a clear road, and the town section at the start is the part that changes most with the hour: a few minutes before dawn, noticeably more on a summer evening.

Being in town makes the last day easy to fill without a car. The shops of the centre, the harbour and the beach across the boulevard are all close, and if you ask in the morning the bags can usually wait at reception after checkout. What needs planning is the pickup itself. Count back from the time your airline wants you at the check-in desk and add the 105 minutes of road and a margin for the town streets. For a morning flight from Antalya that means leaving Alanya in the dark, when those streets are empty and the drive west goes fastest.

• Ask reception the evening before whether luggage can stay after checkout, and book the car for when you will really be ready, not simply for the checkout hour.
• If your ticket says Gazipaşa (GZP), that airport is about 37 km away in a straight line and needs a separate booking; the timings on this page are for Antalya.
• Wait inside until the driver calls or comes in: the car cannot linger on the boulevard, and at night several hotel doors on this block look alike.
