A departure from this end of Kundu begins with the part of the route that varies most. From the gate the car heads west and runs the boulevard in reverse, past Kremlin Palace and the rest of the Kundu frontage and on through Kemerağzı and Lara, turning inland only at Güzeloba for the open road north. The 20 km take about 25 minutes when that strip is quiet, which in practice means early morning and late evening. Around midday, when the resorts are trading one week's guests for the next, add the extra minutes to the pickup time instead of taking them out of your time at the airport.

Two things are worth settling the evening before. The first is the name on the pickup, which should read Swandor Topkapı Palace: with two other palaces at the neighbouring gates, a booking that only says 'Palace' leaves room for a car waiting in the wrong place. The second is the hour, counted back from the moment your airline closes check-in rather than from take-off. In a summer week the queue at the terminal is the one part of the morning nobody can shorten, and the 25 minutes on the road are the smallest item in the sum.
