Heading back, the car pulls out onto Turizm Caddesi, runs east along the hotel strip and takes the two kilometres of local road to the D400 at Çolaklı before turning west for the airport. At first light almost nothing moves on the strip and the highway is reached within a few minutes. Around midday on a busy changeover day the same street fills with coaches turning in and out of the neighbouring resorts. From the junction it is dual carriageway through Gündoğdu, Serik and Aksu to the terminal, 58 km in total and about 55 minutes on a clear road.

A last swim here means walking back a few hundred metres from the sand, showering and dressing, so leave a real margin between the beach and the agreed hour at reception. The hour itself is fixed when you book, counted backwards from the flight rather than from checkout. The other thing worth checking on the final evening is the luggage: a fortnight of holiday shopping often adds a bag. If the flight, the head count or the number of cases has changed, a short message to us is enough for the right car to come at the right time.

• Book the departure under Novum Garden Side rather than a general Side or Çolaklı, so the car stops at this gate and not at Side Aluna next door.
• Count the pickup back from your departure: 55 minutes on the road, plus the check-in window your airline sets, which for an international summer flight is often around three hours.
• The price per vehicle is settled when you book, and a queue of coaches on Turizm Caddesi does not change it.
