Manavgat is a district town, and the things a district town sends people to the provincial capital for make one short list: a referral the state hospital has written, an office that exists only in Antalya, a tax or land matter, a university registration in September, a coach onward to Konya or İstanbul. Foreign residents in the town add errands of their own — a bank, a notary, an appointment at a consulate. Then there is the other half of it: 72 kilometres is far enough that a day of shops, a lunch and a museum becomes an outing, and families here make it a few times a year rather than a few times a month.

Almost everything on this leg leaves early, which makes it a different road from the one the same 72 kilometres are in the afternoon. Out of town over the bridge, onto the D400 westbound, and for the first half hour the delta is shapes rather than scenery — a lit packing shed, a queue of pickups at a field gate, the mountains a darker grey behind. An hour and five minutes holds as far as Serik, where the traffic going into the city becomes the traffic you are in; from the airport junctions onward the road belongs to Antalya rather than to the coast, with filter lanes and whatever the morning has already built up.

• For a morning appointment, count backwards from the hour it starts and add the city to it, rather than from 65 minutes of road.
• If the day has two stops in the city, agree both when you book rather than deciding at the first one.
• Coming back in the evening you meet the city's own outward rush at the airport junctions, so an early lunch and a two o'clock departure is the calm version of the day.
• If someone is travelling on from the terminal, give the departure time of their coach rather than the pickup hour you would prefer.
