Leaving from inside the city, the hour of the pickup matters more than it does on the hotel strips. Before seven the Şirinyalı streets and Perge Bulvarı are almost empty and the 17 km pass quickly; later in the morning, school runs and office traffic fill the same junctions, and the boulevards back to the D400 move from one set of lights to the next. A pickup in that busy window deserves a few minutes on top of the 25 minutes that hold for the rest of the day. Once the car is on the D400 heading east, the airport turnings come up soon after.

The cliff shapes the last morning too. A final swim means the trip down to the platform and back up again, then a shower and drying off, so it belongs early in the day rather than squeezed in just before checkout. On the street side the hotel faces Lara Caddesi, an ordinary working city road rather than a private resort drive, so agree on the main entrance as the meeting point and be there at the booked time. Shopping from Kaleiçi and the city's malls has a way of adding a bag; give the final count when you confirm the car.

• Check the night before which terminal your airline uses; Antalya's international flights leave from two separate buildings, and telling the driver saves a loop around the airport.
• A pickup between about eight and ten in the morning is worth booking a little earlier than the plain arithmetic suggests, because of the city traffic.
• The fare is fixed per vehicle when you book, so minutes lost at city traffic lights do not change what you pay.
