Leaving, the car first takes the local road out to the D400 and turns west, and from there the route is simply the arrival in reverse: Avsallar, the İncekum bays, Okurcalar, then the long run past Manavgat and Serik. At dawn the stretch through Avsallar is quiet; later in the morning dolmuş minibuses and delivery vans pull in along the roadside and slow it a little. Outside the busiest summer weekends, 90 minutes for the 108 km is a fair figure to plan around.

The pickup is at the hotel entrance, not at the beach, which matters on a last morning by the sea. If you want a final swim, look at when the beach shuttle returns to the hotel and leave a margin between that run and the car, with time to shower and close the cases. Pack the night before, agree the pickup hour when you book rather than on the day, and let us know if the group has grown or children's seats are needed.

• Count back from the flight: 90 minutes of driving, then the airline's check-in window, which for international summer departures is usually around three hours.
• A last swim and the shuttle ride back can easily take longer than planned, so set the pickup from the flight time and fit the beach around it, not the other way round.
• Two parties on different flights are better served by two cars, each timed to its own departure, than by one early pickup for everyone.
