Leaving a town-centre hotel is a different exercise from leaving a resort strip. Before dawn Manavgat's streets are empty and the car is back on the D400 within a few minutes. From mid-morning the same five kilometres carry buses, delivery vans and shoppers, and the town section can eat up as much time as a far longer piece of highway. For a midday or afternoon flight that is the stretch to allow for. Once on the D400 heading west, the 69 km through Gündoğdu and Serik are the road you arrived on, and outside the busiest summer days the 60 minutes hold.

The car pulls up in the street at the hotel entrance, and a town street is not a place where a vehicle can stand with its engine running for long. Be down in the lobby with the cases a few minutes before the agreed time, especially at night. A stay in a town also tends to fill the bags, with shopping from the streets around the hotel, so count the luggage again on the last evening and let us know if it has grown since the arrival transfer.

• Work out the pickup time backwards from the flight: 60 minutes of road, a daytime margin for the town streets, then the check-in time your airline asks for.
• If your last night is somewhere else in Manavgat, give that address for the departure instead; the price is fixed per vehicle when you book, not by where the car starts.
• Settle anything with reception the evening before an early departure, so that the morning is only the walk from the lift to the car.
