A car leaving at half past four has them to itself; one leaving at seven shares them with tractors, pickups full of crates and the vans that serve the packing sheds, none of which pull over quickly. It is only about four kilometres to the highway, but those four kilometres decide whether the run is a calm one. Set the pickup with that in mind, and have the gate told the evening before, so the barrier is up and someone is expecting the car.

The junction used here is one of the first Side-area exits, which is an advantage westbound: you join the D400 with the Manavgat and Side traffic already behind you instead of having to push through it. Door to terminal the whole run is 55 km and about 50 minutes, the pressure building as the morning goes on, first at Serik and then at Aksu. The last part is the airport itself — the approach, the terminals, and the drop-off lane, which in peak season takes longer to work through than anyone allows for.

• Ask the hotel to note your departure at the gatehouse, because a barrier that has not been told is the one thing that can stall a timed pickup.
• The farm lanes are busiest between six and eight, so a pickup on either side of that window runs more smoothly than one inside it.
• Vehicle and hour are settled at booking and the price is per car rather than per person, so a change in the number travelling belongs in a message beforehand, not at the barrier.
