On the way out, the first part of the drive is the local road from Titreyengöl Caddesi up through Manavgat's edge to the D400, the stretch that is slowest in daylight and quickest in the dark. Once on the highway the car turns west and stays on it past the Side junction, Serik and Aksu all the way to the airport: 71 km in total, about 65 minutes on a clear road. On summer changeover days, when coaches from every resort between Alanya and Side use the same carriageway, it pays to leave earlier than the arithmetic says.

Families rarely go home lighter than they came. A pushchair, a bag of beach toys, presents from the Manavgat bazaar and the odd extra case all need space, and the car is chosen from what you told us at booking, so if the pile in the room has grown, write to us before the last night and we can send a larger vehicle. Children's seats work the same way on the departure as on arrival: give the ages again for the airport leg and the seats are fitted before the car sets off, leaving the family nothing to do at the gate but climb in.

• Fix the pickup at booking by counting back from the flight: 65 minutes of road plus your airline's check-in time, with a little more for small children and a pushchair.
• Write the full hotel name on the departure request too; a car sent to Monachus Hotel & Spa in Evrenseki would be waiting on the wrong side of Side.
• If the flight is rescheduled, a short message with the new time is enough for us to move the pickup to match it.
