Going back, the drive starts with the same greenhouse lane, now heading north: a few hundred metres of hotel streets, then the straight run of about three and a half kilometres up to the lights on the D400, where the car turns left and west. The lights are the only wait before the highway, and at an early hour they rarely hold the car for long. From there it is Serik, Aksu and the turning for the terminals, and the 50 minutes is a realistic figure outside the heaviest summer changeover days.

A short transfer changes how the last day can be spent. With 55 km between the hotel and the terminal, an afternoon or evening flight leaves room for a full morning on the beach, a shower and lunch before the car comes; ask reception the day before whether the room can be kept a little past checkout, since that decision is the hotel's. For a morning flight the arithmetic is simple: the time the airline wants you at check-in, minus the 50 minutes, minus a small margin for the lights in Serik.

• Give the full name on the return booking as well; at five in the morning the gates of Trendy Aspendos Beach and its neighbour Hotel Turan Prince are only a short walk apart.
• Antalya has a second Gündoğdu, a quarter of Kepez on the city side of the airport, so if you book the departure by phone or message, say Gündoğdu, Manavgat and the hotel name together.
• If you are sharing the car with guests from another Gündoğdu hotel, list both addresses at booking so the order of pickups is planned and not improvised in the dark.
