Almost every booking on this leg is an airport leg. Gazipaşa is the district town beside GZP, the smaller of the two airports on this coast: one quiet terminal, mostly seasonal flights, and a catchment that is really the eastern end of the Alanya coast. When the ticket home reads Gazipaşa and the hotel is on the Side strip, these 105 km are the last item on the holiday, and because such departures are often timed for the small hours the pickup tends to happen while the lobby is still empty. A smaller group is not flying at all and wants the town itself, where the coastline gives up hotels for banana plots and unbuilt beach.

East on the D400 from the first junction to the last. The road crosses the Manavgat river, stays behind the resort frontage at Kızılağaç, Kızılot and Okurcalar, lifts over the İncekum and Avsallar headlands and comes down through Konaklı. Alanya is what costs the time: there the trunk road becomes a city street under the castle, and it is the single place where the pace can break. Beyond it come Kestel, Mahmutlar and Kargıcak, where the carriageway runs on a shelf above the water with banana greenhouses stacked up the slope behind, and then the flat final kilometres into Gazipaşa. An hour and a half for the 105 km, most of them straightforward.

• Departures from GZP at this end of the coast are often in the small hours, so fix the pickup against the flight number rather than against a time you half remember from the booking.
• The hour and a half holds at night; in August daylight, add for Alanya, because the crossing of the city is the only real bottleneck on the whole road.
• Alanya comes up about an hour in and is the last place of any size before the airport, so anything forgotten is easier dealt with there than in the villages beyond.
• Say whether you are going to the terminal or into Gazipaşa town — the airport stands on its own shelf a few kilometres from the centre, and the turnings are not the same.
