Sarıgerme is the closest of the beach resorts that Dalaman Airport serves, a long shore of pale, fine sand in the Ortaca district, lying west of the runway and a little to the south. The people who book this leg are mostly families on charter flights, and a fair share of those flights touch down in the late evening. That means pushchairs, car seats, a trolley stacked with cases and children who fell asleep somewhere over the sea. A private car leaves as soon as the bags are in, goes straight to your hotel gate, and neither waits for a coach to fill nor calls at other resorts on the way.

The trip is 20 km and takes about 25 minutes. From the terminal the car follows the airport road inland for a short stretch, then turns off to the west on the Sarıgerme road, and from there it is flat farm country: fields on both sides, the odd farmhouse, few bends and nothing that could be called a climb. The coast arrives quickly. In daylight the first thing you notice is Baba Adası, the small island sitting just off the beach; after dark it is the lit entrances of the hotels. The sand here is a loggerhead turtle nesting beach, which is why the loungers stand well back from the water.

• Give the flight number when you book: the driver follows the actual landing time, so a charter that comes in late is met when it really arrives rather than when the timetable said.
• Tell us how many child seats you need and how old the children are, so the right seats are already fitted when you reach the car.
• Name the hotel exactly as it appears on your holiday confirmation, because the resorts are spread along the beach road and each has a gate of its own.
• A stop at a supermarket on the way, or the run back to the airport on departure day, can be arranged when you book.
